The inauguration of the new international "Ramon" Airport by the red sea, in the municipality of Eilat, on Jenuary 21st 2019, marks the opening of a new gateway to Israel, named after Ilan Ramon , Israel's first astronaut who died in the space shuttle "Columbia" which disintegrated upon re-entry into earth in 2003, and his son Asaf, a fighter pilot killed in a training flight six years after.
